I know now that there is simply too much to learn in one lifetime.  For every theory that establishes “X,” there is an opposite (if not equal) theory that dismisses “X.” What to do?  For me, focus on a simple model: delegate and empower.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again, the best way for a group of people to succeed is to define a collective goal and then delegate task and then empower those to whom tasks have been assigned.  In the writing of the article summary, I discovered that so many theories can be boiled down to: delegate and empower.  The common fact that I distilled from research is that self-esteem is critical to student success.  It seems somewhat obvious, but until I read many approaches to mastery, it occurred that this is the key to success: self-esteem through task mastery.

I should not have succeeded in life, really, on any level. The odds were definitely against me, but because my mom had the foresight to involve me in a music program, I learned that I can achieve anything if I work hard enough.

I believed in myself thanks to learning a musical instrument.

Furthermore, my parents bought me a Commodore 64.  Because of my musical background, I soon found myself finding musical applications for my little computer.  Music and computers have always carried me since.

There is too much to learn, but through a method of delegation and empowerment, I am beginning to believe that socioeconomic circumstances can be overcome.
