Juan Blea Bio
Juan Blea is a man of diverse talents. He holds a Master’s in Education and is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, but his career often leads him to the technology field. As a successful technology project manager, he has designed and built numerous systems, particularly focused on clinical case management. Juan is also a proficient Python programmer with expertise in creating musical compositions through MIDI, merging his technical and creative interests.
In addition to his tech accomplishments, Juan has authored several books, one of which, 49 Tips and Insights for Understanding Addiction, earned the NM-AZ Book Coop Self-Help Book of the Year award in 2016.
Bilingual in Spanish and English, Juan also plays both guitar and saxophone, though he claims no virtuosity. He balances a serious demeanor with a light-hearted side, embodying the complexities of his mestizo consciousness. He strives to leave the world better than he found it.
Juan resides in his hometown of Santa Fe, NM, where he is a married father of one son. He remains committed to activism within his community, working to preserve historic traditions while guiding them into the future. His guiding philosophy is to live through all that is good, strong, and beautiful.

Hi there Juan!
I just wanted to say how great you were today at the keynote at NMHU. Your book sounds amazing, and I really enjoyed the reading. My husband and I didn’t get to say goodbye to you (we were the ones who drove you and Jimmy over to the keynote) and I just wanted to say you were great!

Hiya Juan! I came across your WP blog when I googled “90 Days to Your Novel”. I’m wondering 2 things of you: 1) are you o.k.? You ended your latest entry on day 5, I was simp!y concerned; 2) I, too, am working on my novel, using Sarah’s book. I’m having many days ups & downs!! All the best to you, & your writing!

Hi Juan, I admire your “life’s mission to teach others how to heal.” So many people are hurting.

Hi Juan,
Have you read The Pastoral Clinic by Angela Garcia about the heroin epidemic in the Espanola Valley. A must read. She is from Velarde, now a Stanford anthropologist.
Has a lot of solutions if only NM would listen. Please see my website.
Thanks.
Ellen

I absolutely STUDIED that book, though I did start by reading “The Elegiac Addict.” I’m using a lot of her work in my presentation about historical trauma in Northern New Mexico. Talk about resonance….THANK YOU!!
