Please enjoy Chapter 3, October 1977 from Journey to Aztlan. This chapter has become known as “The Maroma/Somersault” story because when I was in first grade, I got “sick” because I didn’t know how to do a somersault, but came to learn that I did know how, after all.
This chapter, to me, shows the beginnings of the confusion I began experiencing as a bicultural/bilingual child tried to negotiate his world. It’s a cute story, but no less important.
ENJOY!!

I sumbit this also as a test of the idea that, “Juan’s story is told in a factual style, almost like a history book.”
