On Thursday, August 4th, 6:30 PM at Page 1 Bookstore in Albuquerque NM; I will be discussing Recovery and what it really is. While I will be reading from my book, 49 Tips and Insights for Understanding Addiction, I will primarily be focusing on the mechanics of Recovery and why it’s less about the drugs and more about building, accessing, and maintaining Recovery Capital. (I haven’t yet finished the agenda, yet so if anybody out there would like to suggest a topic, please do let me know…)
I believe, wholeheartedly, that fighting a substance of abuse is largely a waste of effort, as substances tend to become the single most important relationship in an addict’s life. No one means more to an addict that his/her drug of abuse; therefore, no one has the power to eliminate the drug. However, by building healthy resources, addicts can find pathways within their own lives whereby the drug simply has no role.
So, this Thursday, I will discuss why approaching an addiction from a Recovery Capital approach is far better than the traditional “intervention/rehab” mentality. I’ve been told that discussing Addiction isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. But the reality is that if we don’t engage in discussion about Addiction/Recovery, more people will die needless deaths simply because we as a collective community thought that Addiction is someone else’s problem to solve.
I do hope that you join me this Thursday at Page 1. It will be informative and I will be offering 2 Substance Abuse CEUs for those would like them…for more information or to suggest a topic, please email: jblea1016@hotmail.com.
