I saw these horses on the way home today and they seemed so sad behind the barbed wire.  In this series of three pictures, They seemed to be saying in the first (as one horse nuzzled into the other), “I wish we could get the hell out of this barbed wire and run freely.”

DSC_0020For a brief moment, they both looked forward, eyes wide open. As if hope flashed before them, their trapped life could almost fall away into vast landscapes where they could allow their mighty muscles to flex and oxygenate like all great runners legs do…

But just as quickly as hope came, it left and they both felt it leave and hung their heads….their life behind barbed wire would continue (until one of them learns to use wirecutters…..)
