After years of working within our community—building culturally responsive systems, mentoring youth, and honoring the traditions that have shaped Northern New Mexico—I’m proud to officially announce my candidacy for the Santa Fe School Board, District 5.

I didn’t decide to run based off of an emotional whim. My wife and I have had long and thoughtful conversations. She knows my values, understands my heart, and reminds me daily of what’s truly important. Together, we reflected on what this commitment would mean, not just for me, but for us and for our family. And I am moving forward with her full support and shared belief in service.

I’m running to represent families and individuals who, because of linguistic or economic barriers, haven’t always had a voice in the decisions that impact their education. Too often, educational policy is shaped without input from those most affected (Hence the Yazzie/Martinez suit). We need to adjust that process. I’m committed to being a bridge between communities and the systems meant to serve them.

But my campaign isn’t just for parents, students, teachers, or administrators. I am running to serve everyone, whether directly involved within education or not. Santa Fe’s schools provide the lifeblood from which the community derives its health . When schools flourish, so does the entire community. Public education impacts every aspect of our collective life: from economic vitality to public safety, from cultural preservation to civic engagement.

My goal is simple: to ensure that every child in Santa Fe has equitable access to a quality education—and that every community member, whether a parent or not, feels invited, heard, and empowered to contribute to our collective future. Our young, like Whitney said, are OUR future and if we can better provide their access to a healthy and successful future, then we are investing in the long-term health of Santa Fe.

I do not, by any means, have all the answers. But I can listen. My strength in life is the ability to synthesize seemingly disparate information into coherent knowledge. I will deploy this asset in service. And I will do my best to bring concerns to the table and find common solutions. I can’t say that I will please everyone and I know that I’ve never been EVERYBODY’S cup of tea. But I will do my best to be the best servant for District 5. I hope to earn the votes needed to serve on Santa Fe’s Board of Education because, more than anything, I hope to represent and serve.
