SportsPrimo is a HUGE resource for Santa Fe’s athletes. ALL of Santa Fe’s athletes are well-served through SportsPrimo’s coverage of our local games. Joe Abeyta and his team are committed to providing real-time game coverage for as many events as is humanly possible. So when I learn that SportsPrimo is being called out for NOT covering my beloved alma mater’s state tournament game, I am compelled to respond.

This Saturday, the four (4) biggest schools in Santa Fe are ALL playing in the state tournament first round (St. Michael’s and SF Indian School are playing against each other. Capital High is playing first at 5PM, St Mike’s at 6PM, and Santa Fe high at 7PM. The SportsPrimo team made the wise business decision to cover both the Capital and Santa Fe high games, which means NOT covering the St. Mike’s game. Now, anyone who knows me KNOWS that I bleed St. Mike’s blue (I am class of ‘89, with my son being class of 2018) and I will always be indebted to my LaSallian education, I am quite upset and embarrassed that St. Michael’s alumni and parents could allege, in any way, that SportPrimo carries an Anti-Horseman bias.

Over the years, Joe and his team have covered several St. Mike’s games of all kinds. Further, SportsPrimo produced a moving and VERY heartfelt documentary of the St. Mike’s volleyball team that won state in 2018. This documentary took hours and hours to produce and there is no way it could have happened in Joe didn’t feel some pride in the Horsemen. Now, maybe SportsPrimo is just as proud of Santa Fe’s other high schools – but why shouldn’t they be?

As a St. Mike’s alum, I recognize and appreciate St. Michael’s. But I am also a Santa Fe community member and when our kids do well, it serves all of Santa Fe. SportsPrimo may not be able to cover our game this Saturday, but in covering two (2) games, Santa Feans can watch all three game, which is my plan: I’ll stream the Capital and Santa Fe high games, but attend the St. Mike’s game. It’s the best case scenario for me and I applaud SportsPrimo for giving me that opportunity. SportsPrimo is a HUGE St. Mike’s supporter. It’s just that they don’t do so at our overall community’s expense. And they are providing the most bang for our sport’s buck that they can…

As Santa Feans, we should support SportsPrimo, as they are a community resource. As Horsemen Nation, we should honor our full Santa Fe community, as our Lasallian tradition teaches.
