I had given up on my beloved city. Extremist ideologies and monied politicians wore on me to the point that I wanted nothing to do with my city. But then, I had lunch with City Council District 1 candidate, Brian Gutierrez and his conviction to improving Santa Fe inspired me.
Therefore, I wanted to express my wholehearted endorsement and support for Brian Gutierrez for City Council District 1. He is a dedicated member of our community and has proven himself as an independent and committed public servant through his work on the Planning Commission.
Santa Fe is a diverse and vibrant community, and its responsible growth and success depend on efficient and responsive city services. Brian does not attach himself to either money or ideology. He simply knows that a well-functioning city government is crucial to enhancing the quality of life for all residents. His platform, centered on improving city services, aligns perfectly with what I see Santa Fe needs: a balancing voice to agendas that might look good on the surface, but are actually campaign paybacks.
Here are some key reasons why I believe Brian Gutierrez is the right choice for City Council:
Experience and Dedication: Mr. Gutierrez has a proven track record of community involvement and a deep understanding of the challenges our city faces. For example, in response to the upcoming planning code changes, he states, “Santa Fe has overlay protections in certain areas. Laws should be changed prior to development if these protections no longer apply. The city should not disregard these overlay protections. Older neighborhoods may benefit from infill. In the process of updating its development codes attention must be given to infrastructure available in the area. Look at surrounding areas for harmonious transitions. Example: why place a mixed-use zoning in an area without city sewer services.” His statement demonstrates, to me, a deep understanding of how council should address zoning.
Transparency and Accountability: Brian will seek transparency and accountability within the governing body. He will work tirelessly to foster open communication between the city council, city departments, and the public. He has already proven to me that he will be ACCOUNTABLE to his constituents and if he and I disagree on an issue, he has shown respect in his approach to the disagreement.
Infrastructure and Sustainability: I think this is where Brian shines the most. He understands the importance of maintaining and upgrading our city’s infrastructure. Also, he will promote sustainable practices to protect our environment for future generations. Brian says, “Basic services need help. Wastewater out of compliance! MRC, Country Club, the landfill, & others rely heavily on effluent which has been out of compliance. Water lines are very old in parts of the city and leaking. Roadways are unmaintained, parks are both overgrown and unmanicured. The Santa Fe police department is short 25 officers. The city owes the citizens of this city the most basic services . This would be my priority as an elected official.”
It is clear to me that Brian Gutierrez is the only true independent candidate who will make city services a top priority and work tirelessly to enhance our community’s well-being. He is not connected to any monied politicians nor will he indebt himself to any political agenda. He will work for the residents of Santa Fe and I believe he will help bring balance to Cityhall.
